For utility companies, such as water, gas and electricity, the invoicing of consumption is the principle source of economic income, and as such it must be accurately detected and certifiable. The meter reading system, created by CITEC consists of a portable terminal which makes the task of reading meters easy while ensuring reproducibility.

The main objective of the meter reading system is to allows utility companies to optimise consumption readings for future  billings CITEC’s meter reading system, is a portable terminal that is able to record digital images from the meter being viewed, achieving a certified and processable reading, automatically associated to client's data required for billing this completely eliminates any possibility of error in the transaction. The terminal is controlled by the operating system WinMobile 6.0. It weighs 800 gr with  batteries. It can be used outdoors and in all visibility and  weather conditions.

To the photographic image it is possible to associate data such as time and date, meter identificative and of the reader. CITEC’s meter reading system has a pointing and lighting system that automatically focuses the meter ensuring a high quality of  recorded image. Through the “intelligent character recognition” process, designed and patented by CITEC, the system has knowledge-based and a system of rules that allow optical character recognition.

The meter reading system, created by CITEC can be fitted depending on specific requirements, with two optional modules – the GSM or GPRS apparatus, and the Bluetooth card – which respectively, allow the transmission of  data using either GSM or GPRS data to any remote station tailored to receive the information, or a wireless connection through a Bluetooth card, that allows the creation of “wireless” connections with external devices.
