RFId, Radio Frequency Identification, is the technology that uses radio waves for automatic identification of things, animals or people, made through the reading of information, from a distance, with appropriate readers. During the last few years, the automatic identification has provoked much interest and is being developed in all manifacturing sectors, purchasing, distribution of logistic services and manufacturing sector.RFid technology is considered for its application potentiality as a general purpose technology that presents an elevated level of penetration because when it is employed in all stages of the product life its benefits increase quickly. RFid applications developed by CITEC turn out particularly useful to find information about products, for which it is possible to find its univocal identification, its origin and the belongings, the type of product, information about contents and maintenance, the history of product, its expiration, the destination of place and use, times of delivery, correctness in use, the precision of the deliverd route, the weight, eventual customs information, events endured by the products.CITEC integrated solutions for tracking of merchandise with RFid technology consists of:

• Handy RFid Terminal, it finds active and passive TAG RFid informations from keyboard or touch screen through GSM/GPRS connection.

• Gate RFId for fixed system, it finds active and passive TAG RFId, and communicates with external devices through RS232 and LAN connections.

• RFid Terminal for car, for mobile system, it finds active and passive TAG RFid, and communicates with external devices through RS232, USB, IrdDA, Bluetooth and WiFi connections.

• Main system of tracking, for monitoring in real-time of product location through web services “CITEC Services Centre”, for monitoring in real-time of events happened to the product, and the possibility of intervention in case of malfunctioning.

SDA (a “Poste Italiane” company) has made a trial with CITEC integrated system for transport monitoring, with all-automatic modality, through real-time information about the shipment. The scope of this solution is the improvement of the mode of use of current products and services, with the aim of optimzing internal processes and proposing new products for the transport market. Through the reading of RFid tag, it is possible to find when a product is delivered or piked up, to control goods-in and goods-out from all means of transport to localize through GPS the means of transport and to transmit the information, by GPRS, to “Services Centre”. Supplying the branch office and the hubs with gates RFid for controlling good-in and goods-outof the packages from several centers, “Services Centre” knows  the situation in real time and it wakes-up in case of anomalies, supplying the customers with on-line information through web services. Customer’s information technology receives tracking & tracing information find in re al-time from “Services Centre” through the application developed by CITEC.
